HappyCulture Hotels introduces you to the Old City of Nice!

The Old Nice

Nicknamed “the old” by the locals, the old town of Nice has a real medieval village atmosphere. The district, which is overflowing with life, can only be visited on foot, and is therefore teeming with people!

A district for gourmets

To the colours of the city, with its yellow and red facades, are added the sweet scents of spices and the typical flavours of Nice’s cuisine. At the bend in the narrow streets of the Old Nice, you will find many artisanal shops of all kinds: grocery stores, fresh pasta factories, bakeries, caterers Niçois …

You will also find many small restaurants, cafés, wine bars, ice cream parlours, etc. Stop in one of the traditional biscuit factories or at one of the specialty tables of Niçoise, you will not be disappointed. One thing is sure: the walk makes you hungry!

An artistic place

In addition to these small food shops, there are also artists’ shops! Painters, draftsmen, sculptors, or even clothing or jewellery designers. Nothing beats a walk in the Old Nice to find a unique artistic work of art.

A good plan for shopping

You can also find in the old town many trendy little shops for interior decoration, fashion and chic clothes.

Shopping in a picturesque setting will make shopping enjoyable even for the most recalcitrant! You can find both big names and small, privately owned shops here.

The ideal place to go out

At night, it is at the Vieux Nice that the people of Nice meet. A favourite place to get out of the city, this huge pedestrian area full of pubs, restaurants and nightclubs is a great place to go out!

Recommended visits in Old Nice

In the old town of Nice, we particularly recommend :

Stroll in the Cours Saleya

Cours Saleya is home to the city’s famous flower market. You can visit it from Tuesday to Sunday, from 6am to 5.30pm, except on Sunday afternoons and public holidays. If you are looking for local food, you have come to the right place. Come and taste olive caviar with truffles, the famous socca, or fresh fruits and vegetables, and other typical French dishes from Nice.

This market is surrounded by small brasseries and restaurants of all kinds: pizzerias, fish restaurants, grills… Take the opportunity to discover the culinary specialties of the area.

Who says brasserie often says bars, and you will find a good little bundle of them too. Some of them organize mini concerts or broadcast live football matches. The atmosphere is unparalleled…

It is particularly pleasant to stroll there in the evening during the summer. You will be able to have a view of the castle’s waterfall.

Discovering Rossetti Square

Take a gourmet stroll in the Old Nice by visiting the Place Rossetti! Located in the heart of the old town, this square, which is entirely pedestrian, also benefits from a very airy location, which is quite rare in the Old Nice!

An ideal place to take a gourmet break during your visit of the historic districts, it overflows with terraces, small restaurants, bars, and the best ice-cream parlour in town.

Take the opportunity to discover the majestic Saint-Réparate Cathedral, which guards the entrance…

Visit the Lascaris Palace Museum

In the middle of the 20th century, the city of Nice bought this palace, which then belonged to the Ventimiglia-Lascaris family. After 7 years of renovations, it opens its doors to the public again, to reveal to them a beautiful Genoese Baroque architecture. Moreover, the entrance is free of charge! It would be a shame to miss it…
